Planet Earth II

October 12, 2016

I could not be more excited for this. I’ve already watched the trailer five times this morning.

How much you should be paid

September 18, 2010

The BBC commissioned research from ComRes about what the public believes 15 different professions should pay.

Those people surveyed were not told what the real pay levels were in those professions.

Note, it’s what these professions *should* pay not what people think they do pay.

According to the survey the public think that Premiership Footballers should be the highest earners in the country (though they should only earn about £1000 a day rather than the four and half they currently earn on average).

Depressing much?

Inspiration

January 8, 2010

The BBC have published their “100 Things We Didn’t Know Last Year”.

Personal Favourite:

2. Gold medal winner Chris Hoy was inspired to cycle by ET.

If I was going to pick an early 80s sci-fi film to inspire me to ride a bike I would at least have said Tron.

Well-read?

March 24, 2009

I remember a few weeks ago the ‘How many of these books have you read?’ note was doing the rounds on Facebook (with lots of, “OMG, you have to read such-and-such…”). I think the best response to the study that appears to have kickstarted this particular round has to be Charlie Brooker’s:

Apparently people lie about having read all these books because they think it’ll make them appear sexier. Which begs the question: who the hell earnestly believes that claiming to have read the Bible from beginning to end is going to get them laid?

The full article is well worth a read.

Also tomorrow night Charlie’s new series Newswipe starts on BBC Four.
