Man is born crying. When he has cried enough he dies.

Don’t know if we’re getting the re-release over here but Ran is one of my favourite films (also one of my Dad’s).

Edit: GRRM has posted a review of RAN by John Jos Miller over at Not a Blog.

I‘m normally not a fan of unrelenting despair – and RAN is one hundred and sixty two minutes of uninterrupted gloom that concludes with one of the bleakest scenes I’ve seen on film – but a masterpiece is a masterpiece.

Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online is Better Than Life. With swords.

After dabbling in Attack on Titan I think I’m steadily getting into anime. AoT was good. Though not very nice. And there was a lot of shouting.

I’m not hooked by any means but Sword Art Online reminds me a lot of cartoons I’d watch as a kid and makes me want to play RPGs!

In possibly related news I’ve found a swordfighting class.

Uncanny valley nightmare fuel special

Today’s In Focus over at The Atlantic is ‘Robots at work and play‘, and some of these fall very much into the category of ‘cannot be unseen’:

This is like something out of Brazil.

And I’m pretty sure this is actually from an 80s Arnie film.

Others are very much in the category of ‘I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords’:

In conclusion: robots are cool, actual robots are a bit weird, TARS is totes a badass.
